Furniture Polishing & Finishing
If the finish to your piece of furniture is in need of repair from cup rings, scratches or missing decorative details, our team can strip back part or the whole surface and polish to give a seamless finish.
Marquetry is a specialism of the team, so if your item has missing parts, they can match almost any wood and pattern either with new woods or period stock. Damage from burns, relaying lifting and bubbled veneers are also easily rectified.
Inlays are easily damaged and can become loose, our clever craftsman will secure and replace all types of inlay including wood, mother of pearl, metals, ivory, shell, and tortoiseshell. Desks, tables and writing slopes with leather or skiver tops can be easily damaged. We can replace with blind or gold leaf embossing and tooling to the edges.
We have a large range of lacquer, oils, waxes and polishes available to protect your wood and keep it looking beautiful. Our team have many years of experience in French polishing. It’s a very labour-intensive process, applying many coats to build a high gloss finish. French polishing has a delicate, fragile finish which is prone to damage from liquids and heat, however, we can easily repair the affected area and blend with the existing finish.
Our team also specialise in lacquer, oil, wax, and paint finishes, so whatever protection, decoration or treatment you are looking for, we can assist.
Antique & Modern Furniture Repairs
Peter Cooper Restoration can offer a comprehensive restoration, repair, and conservation service on all types of antique and modern furniture. From simple, light conservation cleaning to remove disfiguring dirt or grime, to a complete reconstruction, our team of restorers have a wealth of knowledge and experience to complete the work.
Loose joints can cause long term damage and eventually can cause the furniture to collapse, our team is on hand to repair the issue to ensure the stability of the piece, whether it’s a shaky chair leg, a wobbly drawer front or a drooping hinge. They can even recreate missing parts, in the style of the existing, such as handles, hinges and feet which can all be aged to blend with the rest of the piece of furniture.
Upholstery
Upholstering or re-upholstering can be a great way to breathe new life into a much-loved piece of furniture. Our team can strip your furniture back to the framework, strengthen and glue any loose joints, replace webbing/springs, refill and/or replace cushions if required.
You can finish with either your own fabric provided or choose from our extensive collection of samples books which are high quality materials supplied by leading manufacturers. All our fabrics are fire retardant.
We also offer collection and delivery of your piece of furniture from your home to our workshops. They are fully insured and will ensure it arrives safely with no further damage.
China & Glass Restoration
We have extensive experience in restoring all glass and china ornaments, both modern and antique.
Cracks & losses in clear glass can be discreetly repaired using a clear epoxy resin which is doesn’t deteriorate over time and will match the original glass. Frosted glass can be replicated by applying a glaze.
For ceramics or china we use specialist materials to fill cracks or chips. The object is then retouched by our inhouse experts to match the match the original object
